The Olympic Games
Sydney hosted the 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The bid to host these prestigious events relied heavily on the promise of a ‘green games’.
The coordinated redevelopment of Homebush Bay and Sydney Olympic Park included:

a large variety of world class sporting venues including Sydney International Aquatic Centre, the Archery Centre, and Sydney International Athletic Centre

a commercial precinct including restaurants and cafes

a suburban area for temporary accommodation of athletes, which could later be converted to residential dwellings for the expanding population of Sydney

large areas of passive space in Millennium Parklands and restored natural ecosystems to meet environmental objectives
